Aquila Private Game Reserve & Spa ★★★★

No tv pure bliss. Food was great, however not a la carte. Staff very attentive

On reflection two nights would have been sufficient

Friendly personnel, cabin literally 10 m from the elephants. The safari tours were really nice. We also liked the bar, we drank some really nice cocktails (ask the waiter as he has his own special cocktail menu!).

Drinks were excluded. Safari started a bit early in the morning :-). Hard to find a location with two bedrooms (our daughter had to sleep in our room).

The Indoor Play Area for children was spectacularly device-free, yet stocked with enough to keep kids of a wide age group busy for a long time. The food was decent. Staff were kind enough to accommodate us in the other dining area for lunch, as the Overnighters lunch buffet had just closed (3PM) by the time we came up after check-in. The room (8 Sleeper- Luxury Family Cottage) had a good Karoo/Safari feel to it. We had no problems with insects, and the staff were very polite. Views were great and the facility is beautifully designed and decorated. The curio shop was good. The Safari was very child friendly and not taxing for even my 3 year old.

Room / Facilities: We found a mouse stuck in our tub the whole morning. The flush button for the Loft bathroom had buttons broken, rendering the upstairs toilet unusable. At the camp site they use for a break during the safari, the toilet in the ladies room was not flushing well. Safari: Once you do the afternoon safari, repeating the morning safari is pretty pointless. After about 45min into the safari, we rushed back a long distance just to catch a look at the handful of African elephants while they headed indoors for a timed feed (not quite the safari spotting that we expected). The group of Rhinos were so not perturbed by the 3-4 safari buses buzzing around them (within 5-20m), that we missed the element of danger/thrill that should accompany any safari. The safari guide behaved as if everyone had basic knowledge of their animals. While he did share some very interesting and unique facts, he often did not include basic info, such as the types of antelopes that we had spotted, or the various types of rhinos they had and so on. Stargazing: Our family turned up at the scheduled time, and had the marshmallows by the fire pit, but there was noone to guide us to the stargazing safari. We asked a staff, who said it may start later and so we waited until we assumed it was cancelled for the day. Next day we found out that there was a separate spot for the stargazing which we were never directed to. The reception staff at the check-out said that it may have been cancelled because of cloudy weather, but we have a photo of the clear starry night. Junior Ranger program: The program begins at 10AM, which means there is no way an Overnight package can make use of it, unless they stay back after check-out

Could be more animals - for 2 night stay you are seeing the same 4 elephants, the same 4 lions and same 6 rhinos. Although understand this is a private game reserve for rescue, rehabilitation and release. Pool bar not open.

This is an excellent place for a first 'safari' as it virtually guarantees seeing all the animals. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly too. The hotel is very nice, and the pool especially welcome in the heat of the day. Buffet style food is tasty and theres lots of it, plus enough variation for my vegetarian partner as well. Anywhere that does devilled kidneys for breakfast is fine with me too! Our cabin was comfy and cool and the outside shower clean and very nice. Although It was busy, it didn't seem to feel crowded.

Okay - so they need more sun parasols actually up and out around the pool on hot days. A staff member found us one but it took a while. The pool bar was being repainted and the smell of the paint was quite noticeable too. We waited an age at dinner for someone to come and take out drinks order – we'd nearly finished our food by the time it arrived – and considering we watched three waiters chatting away without a care in the world, that was unacceptable.

Nice place, comfortable rooms and good food. Nice safari tours. Overall well worth its price

Clean and modern.

Walls were thin in bedrooms meaning we could easily hear other guests talking/morning alarms going off.

The spa was a nice relaxing way to spend the day. I like that they rescue, rehabilitate, and release wild animals.

The meals were varied,and had alot of choice.The buffet was fresh and constantly topped up.The room was clean and comfortable.

The size of the park itself is small,however this also ensures that you will sight most of the wildlife.

We love how warm and pleasant are the staffs. Our room has a great view and clean. Their buffet has a great selections of food. We enjoy the game drive thanks to Dino with his informative tour.

Due to some unforeseen situation we got a problem with the water supply in the cottage. But the staff offer us alternatives.

Excellent choices. Greatful for Halaal option.Room was excellent and I loved the room in general.

No leopard on the reserve. Missed my afternoon drive due to accident on the N1. I did call the facility, but no one offered me another game drive.
